5 teens shot, 1 dead after a football scrimmage

Gunfire broke out behind a high school in Philadelphia on Tuesday afternoon, leaving one 14-year-old dead and four other high school football players injured.

According to the police, a little before 5 p.m. a green Ford Explorer drove up and started shooting as the five unidentified victims were leaving the Roxborough High School field following a scrimmage.

The victims were sent to Einstein Medical Center and Temple University Hospital. One victim didn’t make it while the four others are categorized as stable. Though three schools were involved in the scrimmage, all of the athletes who were shot attended Roxborough High School.

The shooters are said to have fled on foot but no suspects or motive has been released publicly.

School shootings have been a key point of concern among parents, students, and politicians. This actual shooting comes on the heels of dozens of false reports of school shootings last week.

Update:

The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting the name of the deceased victim is Nicholas Elizalde. The police are now saying one or more of the victims were specifically targeted.
