Ever since the United States pulled out of Afghanistan there were fears that the Taliban would go back to their old ways and prevent women from participating in education. That fear has come to pass.
Taliban forces have begun to enforce a ban on women’s education. Reportedly, they appear to be enforcing the ban on any women’s academic activity beyond the 6th-grade level.
Previously the Taliban had promised to allow girls to attend public high schools, but they have since broken that promise.
The Taliban has been notoriously hostile to opportunities for women in all areas of life but especially education. In decades of United States occupation following the War on Terror, women temporarily achieved greater standing so the revert to 90s era Taliban policy has come as a shock to the younger generation of Afghan women.
