Supreme Court set to hold hearing on Biden’s student loan forgiveness program

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments for two lawsuits challenging President Biden’s controversial student loan forgiveness plan.

The proposed student loan forgiveness plan would forgive up to $10,000 in federal student loans for most eligible borrowers and up to $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients. The plan was designed to fulfill a campaign promise made by Joe Biden but has been challenged in court by conservatives who claim it is unfair to the taxpayers and oversteps the power of the executive branch.

The final decision falls to the Supreme Court which currently has a 6-3 conservative advantage. The plan was already put on hold by a federal court back in November but that was after millions of borrowers had already applied for forgiveness.

A decision is expected by late June or early July.
