Students raise $270,000 to help 80-year-old custodian retire

Increases in prices are not fun for anyone but older Americans are especially vulnerable to price hikes. Retirees often live on a fixed income and dramatic increases in the cost of living can sometimes force them back into the workforce.

Such was the case for a man known as Mr. James. According to KDFW, the 80-year-old was forced to return to work in January after his rent increased by $400.

The students at the school Mr. James worked at didn’t want to see him come out of retirement:

One viral TikTok and GoFundMe campaign later Mr. James is likely set for life.

Go fund me is in the bio! My classmates and I hate seeing Mr. James here, no one his age should have to be cleaning our messes up to continue to live. #fyp#school#gofundme#fy#mrjames
