Turnitin, which provides plagiarism detection and prevention tools, has launched a new feature to detect writing produced by AI tools, such as ChatGPT, in students’ assignments. The feature, which has a 98% confidence rate for detecting AI writing and will be integrated into current Turnitin systems.

Artificial intelligence platforms have changed the educational landscape overnight. Many chatbots are advanced enough to simulate human writing and even pass college-level exams. Educators are worried about their ability to detect plagiarism in the ways they had previously done before.

Some schools and colleges have blocked access to ChatGPT on their networks and devices over fears of plagiarism, but other educators see value in using the AI tool in classrooms.
