When a 6-year-old Virginia boy shot his first-grade teacher back in January, many people laid the blame at the feet of the mother. In an interview with ABC the mother, Deja Taylor, accepted the blame.
“That is my son, so I am, as a parent, obviously willing to take responsibility for him because he can’t take responsibility for himself,” Taylor told Good Morning America. “I just truly would like to apologize … she did get hurt. We were actually kind of forming a relationship with me having to be in the classroom. And she is really a bright person.”
Earlier this year Taylor’s son took a loaded gun to school and fired it at his teacher. Though the teacher survived the ordeal, the incident still captured the nation’s attention due in part to the shooter’s age and due to allegations that administrators were warned that the student had a weapon on his person that morning. Those allegations are the subject of a $40 million lawsuit recently filed by the teacher Abigail Zwerner.
