The University of California, Riverside (UCR) administration has reached an agreement with student protestors advocating for Palestinian rights, marking a significant development in ongoing campus demonstrations.

The students organized a sit-in to demand transparency regarding the university’s investments related to Israel and to call for divestment from companies associated with the Israeli occupation. As part of the agreement, UCR has committed to increased investment transparency, exploring the possibility of removing its endowment from the broader University of California system’s investment office, and discontinuing study abroad programs to Israel offered by its business school. UC Riverside’s resolution with the student protestors makes it the first University of California campus to achieve an agreed-upon resolution to the student protests.

The deal comes amid a wave of pro-Palestinian protests around the country. College campuses have faced criticism for allowing student demonstrations and encampments. The student protestors are reportedly advocating for their colleges to stop doing business with Israel or companies they say support the war in Gaza. However, critics say the protestors have harassed Jewish students and faculty as well as disrupted classes.
