Middle eastern powers offer education to students disciplined for protesting

In an unexpected move, the Houthi militia in Yemen has offered assistance to students suspended from U.S. universities.

Previously known for disrupting global shipping in support of Palestinians during the Gaza conflict, the rebel group has offered assistance to students suspended from U.S. universities due to their involvement in pro-Palestine protests. As protests against Israel’s actions in Gaza spread across U.S. campuses, the Houthis have proposed an alternative by inviting these students to continue their education at Sanaa University, which operates under their control.

The rebels are to the only power to extend a hand to the student protestors. Regional power Iran offered a similar deal to students who participated in the pro-Palestinian protests.

The offer comes amid a wave of pro-Palestinian protests around the country. College campuses have faced criticism for allowing student demonstrations and encampments. The student protestors are reportedly advocating for their colleges to stop doing business with Israel or companies they say support the war in Gaza. However, critics say the protestors have harassed Jewish students and faculty as well as disrupted classes.
